Frequently Asked Questions
Boarding FAQs
Q1. Can I visit the kennels?
Yes, absolutely! We have an open door policy at the kennels and you can visit anytime for a tour - although there may be a short wait whilst we finish up any routines with our boarders. If you'd like to bring your dog(s) along too we do ask that you make an appointment for a meet and greet so we can book a free slot on the arena and actually spend some time with you and your dog(s) getting to know you. You can make an appointment via email admin@salthousepetboarding.co.uk or by calling us on 07496818413.
Q2. Do you provide Day Care?
Yes, we do! Day Care runs alongside our overnight boarding so dogs get the exact same level of care and 1:1 attention whilst they are with us. We don't currently have a social day care - where dogs are all mixed together in the same space , although we can and do socialise dogs who are proven to be sociable where possible.
Q3. What vaccinations does my dog need?
All dogs must have up to date standard vaccinations, including kennel cough (infectious tracheobronchitis). These must have been administered at least 2 weeks prior to boarding. An up to date vaccination certificate must accompany your dog on arrival. No dogs will be accepted without an up to date vaccination certificate.
Q4. Do you accept titre testing?
While we prefer vaccinations, we do accept a titre test with a valid date and an authorised vet’s signature. Additionally, we need to see proof of the other vaccinations your dog has as mentioned earlier.
Q5. Do you charge per day?
Just like a hotel we charge PER NIGHT. For example if you needed to board your dog Monday-Sunday you'll need to book 6 nights, not 7 days.
Q6.How much exercise will my dog get whilst boarding?
As a general rule all dogs get 3 periods of off lead exercise in our secure freedom parks every day. This is subject to change due to weather conditions and also your dogs needs. We also have playtime in our outdoor pens as well as lead walks around the grounds and also kennel playtime inside.
Q7.What’s a typical day like at the Salthouse Pet Boarding?
Our routines vary depending on various factors such as the weather, type and size of dogs we have boarding etc but this is how a typical day looks.
7-8am: Toilet breaks, kennel refresh and breakfast
8-10am: Morning Walks
10-11.30am: Play Time/Kennel Play
12 noon: Lunch / treats / chews / kongs
12.30-2.30pm: Lunchtime Walks
2-30-4.30pm: Play Time/Kennel Play
4.30pm: Dinner
5.30-7.30pm: Evening walks
Q8.Will my dog be mixed with other dogs?
Not unless you have given us permission to do so and we are absolutely confident in both dogs social skills. As a rule every dog receives 1:1 care for all exercise and play time however if we are able and have permission we may socialise dogs together. Dogs will always have an on-lead assessment with each other before being allowed to run free.
Q9. My dog is not very social. Does it mean that it will be on lead while the other dogs play around?
Even if your dog is not sociable, they will still get the same amount of time off- lead to play by themselves.
Q10. Can you administer my dog’s medication?
Yes, whilst we are not Vets we can administer any medication that has been prescribed by a vet.
All medication should be brought in its original packaging with the prescription label intact to indicate the dosage to be administered and how and when it needs to be administered. A vet’s prescription is a must. All medications must be listed on your dogs Revelation Pets Profile.
Q11. Are you open on Sundays and holidays?
Yes we are open 365 days a year, however, we don't allow check ins or check outs on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day so if you'd like to board your dog over these dates they'd need to be checked in the day before and checked out the day after.
Q12.What time is drop off / collection?
Day Care Drop off is 7.30-8am and collection is 6-6.30pm.
Check-in: 2:30pm – 6:30pm
Check-out: 7:30am – 12:30pm
Requests for check-in/out outside of these times must be pre-arranged via email and, if agreed, will incur a £15 fee.
You are able to select your check in and out times at the point of booking and we ask that you are as accurate as possible so we can plan for arrivals and departures. Arriving before/after your selected time may incur a charge and may also mean you are asked to wait until a staff member is available.
